Gasketed Plate and Frame Heat Exchangers

The gasketed plate heat exchanger is a compact and efficient heat transfer solution for a wide variety of applications in practically all industries. Main features are low pressure drop with high turbulence across the plate surface for maximum heat transfer. Sondex plates feature full support of the gasket with a closed gasket groove. Gasket can be either glued or clip on and are available in Nitrile and EPDM. Plates are available in AISI 316, Titanium, SMO 254 and Hastelloy. Our heat exchangers are designed individually to each application, with the number and size of the plates determined by the fluid flow rates, thermodynamic and fluid dynamic properties of the fluids, allowable pressure drop and temperature difference. This detailed engineering design ensures you get the most suitable and cost effective heat transfer solution with unparalleled customer service and excellent technical support. Typical uses include:

  • Heating and cooling duties in the Mining and Minerals industry.
  • Heating and cooling in Mechanical Services and HVAC installations.
  • Pasteurisation, heating and cooling in the food and beverage industry.
  • Heating and cooling in Marine and Power.

Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers

Strong and compact plate heat exchanger with extremely high heat transmission, coming from the plate pattern, that is designed to create a turbulent flow whilst maintain low pressure drops. The entire brazed plate heat exchanger is comprised only of heat transfer surface with a pressure rating of up to 2,500kPa (362 psi). The resultant high efficiency combined with thin plate material and low production costs keeps the sales price of the brazed heat exchanger at an extremely competitive level. These units offer significant advantages over old-style shell and tube or coaxial devices being up to 60% smaller. Typical uses include:

  • Heating and cooling duties in the manufacturing industry for clean fluids such as hydraulic oil, refrigerants and scheme water.
  • Heating and cooling in HVAC installations.
  • Evaporation and condensation in DX chilling applications with refrigeration systems using R-22, R-134a, R-404a, R410a and other refrigerants

Condenser Plate Heat Exchangers

The SWC136 Sondex Condenser is specially developed for condensing of low pressure vapour. The plate is designed as a semi welded cassette, with a welded channel for the condensing side. On the cooling medium side there is a traditional plate heat exchanger gasket. The DN800/32” Vapour connection makes it possible to cover many duties in a single pass solution, with all connections being on the frame plate, making service work easier. The frames are designed to 0.6MPa or 1.0MPa with plates available in AISI 306, AISI 316, 254 SMO, Hastelloy and other press-able metals. Substantial savings can be made over conventional shell and tube exchangers with the SWC136 Sondex Condenser.

Evaporator Plate Heat Exchangers

The SWE179 Sondex Evaporator is specially developed for evaporation of highly concentrated products. The plate is designed as a semi welded cassette, with a welded channel for the product medium side. On the heating medium side there is a traditional plate heat exchanger gasket. The DN700/28” Vapour connection makes it possible to cover many duties in a single pass solution, with all connections being on the frame plate, making service work easier. The frames are designed to 0.6MPa or 1.0MPa with plates available in AISI 306, AISI 316, 254 SMO, Hastelloy and other press-able metals. Substantial savings can be made over conventional shell and tube exchangers with the SWE179 Sondex Evaporator.

Free Flow Plate Heat Exchangers

The free flow plate heat exchanger is specially designed for fruit juice, sugar and general industrial markets handling fluids which contain fibre or solids up to 2 mm in diameter and a length of up to 5 mm. The plates have been designed without any metal contact between the plates, ensuring flow is unimpeded and that particles will not be caught in the plates. Gasket are clip on and are available in Nitrile and EPDM. Plates are available in AISI 316, Titanium, SMO 254 and Hastelloy. Typical uses include:

  • Cooling/heating of fibrous material, like fruit juice, containing pulps.
  • Pasteurizing cream, yoghurt and viscous ice cream mixes.
  • Cooling wort with mash.
  • Cooling mustard and tomato sauces.
  • Cooling and heating biodiesels during fermentation, liquefaction, distillation, rectification and evaporation
  • Heat recovery from industrial applications, containing impurities, waste water, cellulose, etc.

Plate Heat and Shell Heat Exchangers

This heat exchanger works in the same way as an ordinary shell and tube unit, however, it is more efficient because plates have been used instead of tubes. The plates are laser/TIG welded together to form a plate pack, which is then mounted inside a traditional cylindrical shell. Substantial savings can be made over conventional shell and tube exchangers with the plate and shell exchanger due to the efficiency of the plate pack in comparison to an array of tubes. The advantages of the plate and frame heat exchanger include:

  • No gaskets
  • High working temperatures up to 250°C
  • High working pressure up to 25 bar
  • Small liquid hold up volume
  • Small space requirement ( only 30% of a traditional shell and tube exchanger )
  • Easily serviced in comparison to a shell and tube exchanger.
